Overview
Wings of Eagles Discovery Center is proud to work together with GST BOCES to offer unique learning opportunities for children and young adults during the summer months through the Summer of Innovation program. Our organizations have a common goal to provide students with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills that are essential to their success in the future. Students may participate in more than one program. Students who participated last year can choose to repeat courses if they wish to expand upon the skills learned last year or they can choose to take new courses to increase their skill set. If you have questions about our Summer Programs please call Alison Mandel at 607-738-3054.
Information about other GST BOCES summer programs can be found at http://www.gstboces.org/summerofinnovation/index.cfm
Wings of Eagles will be charging $25 per course this year. The $25 fee is a non-refundable registration fee that must be paid at time of registration. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify for Free or Reduced School Lunches through our needs-based scholarships. Verification of a student’s eligibility will be required. If your child qualifies – please fill out this form instead of the one above.

- Grades 3-4
- Marvelous Machines
- Grades 3-4
- July 15-19 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- July 22-26 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- This program gives you a chance to design,?create and improve the things that you engineer.? This program is designed by the Boston Museum of Science and includes many hands on experiments and activities. This is a one week course offered twice.

- Grades 3-6
- RCX Robotics
- Grades 3-6
- August 12-16 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. SESSION IS FULL – New registrants will be put on a waiting list.
- RCX Robotics are an earlier generation of the NXT Mindstorm Robotics. RCX is a team activity designed to strengthen your student’s teamwork skills, communication skills, computer programming and problem solving skills. Your robot can use simple math commands to achieve these tasks. Failure is actually encouraged in RCX. Remember if Thomas Edison had not failed thousands of times, we wouldn’t have the light bulb today. Therefore, as your students fail, they are actually learning and one day will succeed.

- Grades 4-8
- Fun With Slime
- Grades 4-8
- July 29 – August 2 from 9:00 AM. to 11:30 AM.
- August 12-16 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Household products are curiously inspiring. Students will use food coloring, a teaspoon of liquid starch and glue to create a “non-Newtonian fluid.” This is a one week course offered twice.

- Grades 5-8
- Aviation
- Grades 5-8
- July 8-12 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Hop into the pilot seat, learn the basics of aviation; take the controls and get ready to learn the basics behind flight. We will build airplanes and learn using actual flight simulators. This non-stop action is great for students that love video games and science.
- e-Mission & Active Worlds
- Grades 5-8
- August 5-9 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Students will work together in teams to build a computer model of their ideal space station and their own avatar. Then through distance learning video equipment, students will have a chance to experience an e-Mission simulation where they will work together to solve problems aboard the International Space Station in a simulated environment.
- NXT Mindstorms Robotics
- Grades 5-8
- July 8-12 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- July 15-19 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- This introductory course introduces students to the basics of LEGO Robotics. Students will work in teams to design, build and program their own robots. This is a one week course offered twice.
- NXT Mindstorms Robotics – Advanced
- Grades 5-8
- July 29 – August 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- This advanced course allows students to further explore lessons using NXT LEGO Robotics. Students will work in teams to design, build and program their own robots. Students MUST have completed a program either at Wings of Eagles or in their school in order to be eligible to enroll in this program.
- Rocketry
- Grades 5-8
- July 15-19 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Learn the science behind rockets! Students should be ready to build and fly their very own rocket.
- SEED (Schlumberger Excellence in Educational Development)
- Grades 5-8
- July 22-26 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Lots of hands on activities during this fun filled week. Students will build a battery from a lemon, test the water quality of local bodies of water using water testing kits and experiment with the viscosity of various liquids. Wings of Eagles is one of 84 partner schools around the world that can provide activities that help students learn about math & science in a fun and enlightening way by utilizing the SEED resources.
