GST BOCES Aviation Studies (Transportation, Aviation, Travel) is a GST BOCES Career and Technical Education program offered at the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center. This two-year program, designed for high school juniors and seniors, prepares students for a career in the aviation industry, whether it is a job right out of high school or a solid base for a technical school or college. At the end of the second year, those who qualify may elect to take the FAA Private Pilot Ground School Knowledge Exam. The course consists of book work, lectures and hands-on work including an aircraft build. Students build a different aircraft each year of their studies under the supervision of restoration shop staff members. The program has articulation agreements with Jamestown Community College, and three college credits are available upon graduation. English, Math and Science credits also are given and may be used by the home school as needed.

Check with your high school Guidance Counselor to see if GST BOCES Aviation Studies is available to you and ask to schedule a TEC Tuesday visit to get a first-hand look at the program.

BOCES class visits Horseheads Middle School Mr. Chad Burton left and Mr. Kyle Cross right, both juniors from the BOCES Aviation Studies Class, visited Horseheads Middle School as part of information day on May 14, 2010.  They met with eighth graders and talked about careers in the aviation industry and how school is the best way to prepare themselves for a good job.  Visits in the past have produced new students for our class when they reach the high school level.

On June 1, 2010 our junior class sat in on E-Mission.  An E-Mission is a program held here at Wings Of Eagles with Ms. Alison Mandel at the helm simulating a space mission with an emergency thrown in.  This mission was attended by SVE Middle School 7th graders.  When all was said and done the 7th graders saved the day with just a little help from the BOCES students.  It was a great learning experience of all who were there.
