FAQs for Visitors

Is there a gift shop or souvenir store in the museum?
Yes! We have a wide selection of items for purchase in our gift shop. The gift shop is open the same hours as the Discovery Center.
Does Wings of Eagles Discovery Center rent out the facility for birthday parties, weddings, banquets, or other events?
Yes! We can accommodate many types of events. For more information check out our Events page.
Is Wings of Eagles Discovery Center wheelchair accessible?
Yes! Our entire facility is on one floor with sidewalk curb cuts outside. The rest rooms are equipped with enlarged stalls to accommodate wheelchairs. Have further questions? Call us at 607-358-4247 for more information.
What is the policy on smoking?
As a public building, smoking is NOT PERMITTED anywhere within Wings of Eagles Discovery Center’s buildings. A designated area for smoking is available outside the building.
Is there parking on the grounds of Wings of Eagles Discovery Center?
Yes! Parking is available in the Discovery Center’s lot in front of the building. Designated spaces are available for visitors with disabilities.

Why should I become a member?
There are lots of reasons to become a member of Wings of Eagles Discovery Center. Members enjoy free year-round admission and become eligible to volunteer for the organization. Members receive 4 guest passes with their membership card that allows them to tour the museum with friends and extended family at no additional cost. How do I become a member?
Becoming a member is easy with an option to apply online or by mail! To apply online, complete our online form. To apply by mail, download an application (PDF) and return it by mail or in person with your payment. Once your application has been processed you will receive your new membership card in the mail.
How do I renew my membership?
Renewing your membership is easy with an option to renew online or by mail! To renew online, complete our online form. To renew by mail, download an application (PDF) and return it by mail or in person with your payment. Once your application has been processed you will receive your new membership card in the mail.
Who gets admission with my membership?
An Individual Membership includes admission for you and one child under the age of 18. A Family Membership includes admission for two adults and your children. Both types of memberships also include 4 free guest passes that can be used by children and adults.
Can I bring guests when I visit using my membership?
Our members receive 4 free guest passes which means they can bring guests with them to tour Wings of Eagles Discovery Center at no additional cost.
What exactly does membership give me free or unlimited admission to?
A membership to Wings of Eagles Discovery Center entitles you to many benefits including free year-round admission to the Discovery Center and other participating ASTC Centers, four free guests passes and discounts in our gift shop. An additional list of member benefits can be found here ‹more›
Are there different levels of membership?
Yes! We have Individual and Family memberships available for purchase.

FAQs for Volunteers

How can I get involved as a volunteer?
Volunteers are needed through almost every area of Wings of Eagles Discovery Center. We are always looking for people willing to volunteer as tour guides, in the admissions and gift shop area, in exhibit creation and maintenance, and for event set-up and tear down. For a more complete list of ways to volunteer see our Volunteers page.
How can I find out about volunteer opportunities?
Our Volunteer page contains information on the areas volunteers are needed and how to apply. If you still have questions our volunteer coordinator can be reached at 607-358-4247.
Is training required for Wings of Eagles Discovery Center volunteers?
Yes, every volunteer will need some training before starting their position. The length of training will depend on the position.
I’d really love to help with special events, but I cannot volunteer regularly. Can I still help?
Yes! We often need volunteers to help set-up and tear down tables and chairs for events at night and on the weekends.

What is the difference between extended day, summer and in school programs?
Traditionally thought of as after school programs, our extended day programs are held at the end of normal school day hours. They are usually held at a local school for one hour on one or more days of the week. Summer programs are held during the summer school break for a one week session and for three to four hours a day. In school programs are usually scheduled by teachers for classes of 25-30 students. Most of the programs are held at Wings of Eagles Discovery Center and the school is responsible for busing.
One of my students has special needs. Can he/she still participate?
Yes! Wings of Eagles Discovery Center encourages all students to participate in our programs no matter what their physical or mental abilities. We will do our best to provide the necessary accommodations for any student with special needs.

FAQs for Events

Does Wings of Eagles Discovery Center have a caterer on site?
Yes! Sweet-N-Saucy Catering runs the Wings Cafe at Wings of Eagles and is our exclusive on-site caterer. Sweet-N-Saucy has provided Wings of Eagles Discovery Center with a catering permit from the Chemung County Health Department.
What does Wings of Eagles Discovery Center have for amenities and is there a charge to use them?
Wings of Eagles Discovery Center has 44 – 60 inch round tables, 15 – 8ft rectangular tables, 380 – straight back chairs, 145 – padded chairs, archways, and fencing. These amenities are available to use for no additional fee.
Does Wings of Eagles Discovery Center have audio visual equipment available for me to use, if so, what types and is there a fee to use them?
Wings of Eagles Discovery Center has a large screen TV, LCD projector, large pull down screen, easels, DVD/VCR player, wireless microphone, podium, polycom conferencing equipment, and high speed wireless internet throughout the building. There is an additional fee added to your rental amount for use of any audio visual equipment.
Does Wings of Eagles Discovery Center permit alcohol at events?
Yes! Wings of Eagles Discovery Center does permit alcoholic beverages. A one-time Special Event permit application has to be filled out by the caterer/client and Wings of Eagles Discovery Center and must be filed with the New York State Liquor Authority to obtain an alcohol permit.

New York State Liquor Authority does charge a fee for this application. The client or cater must agree to limit alcohol use to individuals with an age of 21 or over, and to be responsible for any and all liabilities arising from the use of alcoholic beverages on the premises.Wings of Eagles Discovery Center requires an insurance certificate naming Wings of Eagles Discovery Center and Chemung County and their officers and employees as additional insureds. This certificate of insurance must be provided 2 weeks before the event.

Who is responsible for the set up and tear down of events?
In most cases the client or caterer will do set up and tear-down for your event. In the case that you would like Wings of Eagles Discovery Center to do this service, please let our events coordinator know before the event so we can arrange to have this service provided for you.
Who cleans up after an event?
Clean-up is the responsibility of the client or caterer.
Who supplies security for an event?
The staff of Wings of Eagles Discovery Center will be on site for security. If in the event extra security is needed, our event coordinator will make the appropriate arrangements to bring extra security in for the event.
What are the smoking rules during an event?
As a public building, smoking is NOT PERMITTED anywhere within Wings of Eagles Discovery Center’s buildings, including the restrooms. A designated area for smoking will be provided outside the building.
