Overview
In August of 1966, the Air Force Systems Command awarded a joint contract to Rolls-Royce of England and Allison of the US to develop an advanced version of the Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engine to power their version of the Vought A-7D “Corsair II”. The result was the TF41-A-2. The TF41-A-2 engine showed outstanding reliability in combat operations, and boasted an overhaul life of 1,500 hours – exceptional for a combat engine of its period.
The engine on display and its maintenance cart are on long term loan from the US Navy.
