Professional Development at the Boyce Thompson Institute links teachers, students and scientists in plant biology research for a sustainable future. Our lesson plans, laboratory activities and plant experiments kits engage students in authentic scientific inquiry. Using real plants and real questions, classroom-generated data can be share with researchers online to improve agriculture, protect the environment and enhance human health.
Teachers attending the Boyce Thompson Institute Site will experience the Bioenergy and Bioproducts Teaching Parnters workshop that benefits from Boyce Thompson Institute’s emphasis on Plant Research.
Each workshop includes seminars, hands-on laboratory activities, field visits, and collaborative work time. Participants will interact with other teachers, researchers, and industry professionals and will leave with the ability to teach basic Bioenergy and Bioproducts concepts. Furthermore, participants will understand how to conduct and present the hands-on activities in their own classroom.
Participants are encouraged to work with other teachers in their schools/districts to develop collaborative projects aimed at introducing students to the topics of Bioenergy and Bioproducts.
