Bioenergy in the Technology Classroom

University of Delaware partnership with BBEP leverages strengths of both programs for educators

The BBEP workshop materials are designed to assist technology teachers in planning options for their classrooms in ways that integrate technology needs for the emerging bioenergy and bioproducts industries with design, invention and creation in the technology classroom, and applications of biotechnology in the biotech classroom.

Our curriculum brings a discussion and examples of technology needs in the following eight focus areas relating the emerging Bioeconomy workforce:

  • Sustainability
  • Systems Thinking
  • Biomass production and logistics
  • Liquid Biofuels (transportation)
  • Biomass for heat (warmth)
  • BioPower (electricity)
  • BioProducts (industrial chemicals and natural products)
  • Environmental Impacts, Policy & Economics

Many careers in the biobased economy use technology skills every day. Here’s a brief sampling of technology sectors needed in the emerging Biobased economy that require technology skills in their jobs:

  • Seed Technology
  • Computer Technology
  • Harvest equipment design
  • Biomass production equipment design and maintenance technologies
  • HVAC and Systems Thinking
  • Transportation Logistics
  • Biomass conversion technologies
  • Biomass storage technologies
  • Processing technologies
  • Precision Agriculture technologies
  • Biotechnology
  • and more
