2011 Train-the-trainer program – Andrea Harpen participated in the BBEP program at Cornell University in 2011. She is a chemistry and physics teacher with eight years teaching experience at Blanchester High School, a rural Title I eligible school in southwest Ohio. Andrea’s background prior to teaching was as a chemical engineer managing the processing and packing of soybean oil for Proctor & Gamble’s Ivorydale Food Plant. While teaching, Andrea has distinguished herself as a leader in STEM education by spending her summers learning cutting edge research and integrating that into her lessons. After her nanoscience research at the Purdue University, Andrea was named a Master Teacher in Nanoscience Education for summer workshops for teachers at Hampton University. She held an internship at Argonne National Labs, writing materials in nuclear energy education. She won the 2010 Governor’s Award for Excellence in STEM Education, and was a 2011 Certified Master Teacher Training in Biofuels and Bioproducts for OBIC (Ohio Bioproducts Innovation Center.) Andrea Harpen continues to work closely with program leaders in Ohio and at Cornell University and has contributed new materials to the program to share with other teachers on the topic of Green Chemistry.
